FMVs, TV Shows, and Birthday Swag

Did you guys know that I had made a Sherlock video to the Barenaked Ladies’ “Falling for the First Time”? Apparently I posted it here, but I rediscovered it while uploading the Crime Dramas Suck video to Vimeo. I have no memory of making this video. NONE. THE SPOT WHERE THIS SHOULD BE IS COMPLETELY BLANK. It would have taken me hours and I have no recollection of it.

The brain. It is, truly, a strange thing.

I’ve been spending an exorbitant amount of time picking up and obsessively watching television shows lately. I could say that this has been in an attempt to complete my unusually high number of crafting works in progress, but it’s more likely that I’m just a lazy bastard and didn’t feel like working on video or audio or blog or comic projects for the past few weeks.

Either way, I have watched Things:

Alcatraz - I’m watching a new show? An actual new show? One that is still in it’s beginning days? I know. It seems crazy to me, too. I’m liking it so far. It’s interesting and there are definitely Plots to be had, but it’s not driving me absolutely bonkers waiting for the next episode.
Black Books - Heard about this one through someone or other’s blog and happened to see it on the Netflix for streaming. Naturally, I spent all of my Saturday getting sucked into this show. And laughing like a crazy person.
Fortysomething - Been meaning to get through this one for a while. For the Cumberbatch, you know. I was hesitant, though, because I was on guard for a particular kind of situational comedy that makes my skin crawl. There were a couple of very brief moments of this, but Hugh Laurie diffuses so much of it by being Hugh Laurie. I felt weirdly grateful for it by the end of the series. If this had been even slightly American, it would have been unbearable because those moments where my skin crawls would have been blown out of proportion and would take over the show. Which is why I don’t watch American comedic shows, generally. But this show is fantastic.
Supernatural - To be fair, I picked Supernatural up again at the end of December via the Netflix DVDs, but at the time I would only watch one or two episodes a day. Lately, I’ve been devouring all the episodes on each disc in one sitting. I’m starting to get into the episodes where I lost my place the first time I tried to watch this show, so "new" episodes are coming up. I'm excited about it.

I'm not excited about the time it takes for the DVDs to be mailed to and from magical Netflix land, but it's probably for the best. We've seen what happens when I have no pauses in my show viewing.

The 26th was my birthday. I usually ignore the world on my birthday. I had decided not to do that this year, but I ended up rewatching episodes of Sherlock and, therefore, ignored the world anyway. Well done, me.

Obligatory photo of birthday presents:

Yep. Two Star Wars books aimed at 7 year olds and some crafting gift cards.

And I've already spent the Jo-Ann's one. Well done, me. In my defense, most of it was for yarn for a commission, so that money will be coming back to me.

But I did buy a new cube.

It's got two colors! It's black on the outside and a sort of off-white on the inside!

One day, I will move out of my parents' house and buy a cube shelf and fill it with cubes. I shall have a room of cubes. It will be cube-tastic.

Also, I have finished another book:

4. Feet of Clay - Terry Pratchett
